The renewed Photography Museum is the only specialised museum of photography in Lithuania. It is an important multifunctional photography centre that has preserved the architectural spirit of interwar modernism.
The museum holds professionally organized exhibitions of contemporary Lithuanian, foreign and historical photographs, meetings with photo-artists and various lectures. The museum’s exposition “Laisvę fotografijai!” (“Freedom for Photography!”) will take you to an interactive photographic adventure: a journey through time from the origins of photography to present day. Those who are eager to explore and discover are offered thematic educational programs. The photo studio of the Photography Museum holds classes for the photography club.
Unforgettable impressions await on the museum’s rooftop terrace: the opportunity to step inside the camera in the “camera obscura,” wear monocles to look at the panoramas of old Šiauliai and compare them with the modern city’s landscape right above. During festivals or in the evenings, visitors are welcome to concerts and other entertainment events.
The public reading room of the Photography Museum offers its visitors a wide variety of publications, books, albums, and periodicals in the field of photography.
