Climbing up the Parnidis dune on the southern side of the Nida settlement you will visit the White Dune habitat. It is the only place in the Curonian Spit National Park where the chain of blown dunes has survived until now. South of the Parnidis Dune overlooks the swamp dunes in the Grobstas Nature Reserve and, with good visibility, the sands of the Russian Federation. Scientists estimate that due to the prevailing western wind, these traveling dunes move from 0.5 to 10 m per year. eastward. Sand is light and loose rock that travels long distances when carried by the wind. The dunes move by transferring sand sand from the windward slope to the backwaters. The wind-driven sands travel along the spit in the form of ruts, sandbanks, until they get stuck behind the plant. In places where people do not visit, the dunes' surface resembles the seabed. Also known as white dunes, these blown dunes give light to the spit sands of quartz, which contains 85 to 99 percent.

Large belfry plants grow on the sandy beaches: sandy sandstone, sandy ryegrass, sandy lynx. Thanks to their strong rhizomes, these plants are able to grow in the volatile seaside sand and trap the sand blown by the wind. Therefore, the shelter created by these robust bell-shaped plants may also be home to thinner plants - umbrella hawk, Baltic foam, Baltic lynx, Seashell.

Protecting the highly sensitive and vulnerable habitat of the White Dunes, regulates visitor flows and delimits certain areas where access is strictly prohibited. We kindly remind you that you cannot climb and descend the eastern slopes of the Parnidis Dune
